Kristin Shiu, soprano, was a finalist in the 2009 Classical Singer Magazine High School Vocal Competition last spring, and competed in the second round of the competition at the Classical Singer Convention in Chicago in May, 2009.

Katelyn Hannel, Julia Maxham, and Vincent Ransome, piano, and John Maxham, violin, all received Honors or High Honors at the New Jersey Music Teachers Association (NJMTA) 2009 Spring Recital Auditions. They all performed at NJMTA Winners’ Recitals in May, 2009.

Alexandra Selvaratnam, piano, participated in the Union County Teen Arts Festival and was chosen to perform her piano solo at the Teen Arts Showcase, held at the Union County Performing Arts Center in Rahway on April 29, 2009.

Alexandra Selvaratnam and Ian Lawson, piano, received superior ratings at the Music Educators Association (MEA) Auditions for piano in June, 2009.

Joheen Chakraborty and Neha Choudhari, piano, performed solo pieces at the Princeton Piano Festival in June, 2009.

Eric Silverman, guitar, has been performing with his band, Strike, at various New Jersey locations.

The Westerhoff School celebrated the first-year anniversary of its new building on Calvin Place with a recital given by Westerhoff students on April 5, 2009. Francesca Falzon, Katelyn Hannel, Sanmesh Kumar, Nikita Mamedov, Ross Manjunath, Anthony Martin, Julia Maxham, Anna Nicholls, Vincent Ransome, Makeila Reyes, and Adrian Villanueva all performed in the school’s recital hall for other students, parents, and invited guests.

On June 5, 2009, members of the community heard performances by Westerhoff students Pranav Balasubramanian, Joheen Chakraborty, Neha Choudhari, Joshua Goldstein, Teja Gutti, Katelyn Hannel, Ciara Johnson, Devon Johnson, Nicole Kay, Olivia Kope, Geneva Lawson, Ian Lawson, Blain Liang, Jarrett Liang, Anthony Martin, John Maxham, Anna Nicholls, Anton Popov, Roxanne Seagriff, Eric Silverman, Adrian Villanueva, and Junlin Yi as part of Metuchen’s Junebug Arts Festival. The festival offers performances and exhibitions by various organizations and artists throughout town on four Friday evenings in June.

Alumni
Nikita Mamedov, piano, is a first-year scholarship student at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ, majoring in piano performance. Nikita received a first-place scholarship award in the Westminster Piano Scholarship Competition last spring. He is studying there with Ingrid Clarfield.

Allison Kovacs, piano, is a freshman at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA, where she is continuing her piano lessons and studying biology. She received Muhlenberg’s highest Arts Scholarship Award towards college tuition based on her performance at an audition for the music faculty there.

Molly Hampsey is studying voice in the music education program at Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Theresa Donohue, piano, is pursuing a double major in music and Spanish at Boston College.

Victor Thomas, piano, is continuing his piano lessons and musical studies while majoring in English at Washington University in St. Louis.

Amy Suznovich, soprano, graduated in May, 2009 from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance.

Julia Maxham, piano, attended the Westminster Choir College high-school piano camp in July 2009. Julia performed Mendelssohn’s Song Without Words, Op 102, No. 4, as well as chamber music for piano, at the camp’s final concert.

Elizabeth Baran, piano, performed at the piano in hospitals and nursing homes during the holiday season as part of a community service project for school.
